ALKATREAT
ALKATREAT is a highly concentrated liquid material used to supply alkalinity to boiler water for proper sludge formation and pH adjustment of cooling water and service water supply.
PURPOSE
When Alkatreat is added to boiler water, it supplies free hydroxide alkalinity in order to accomplish three things to maintain a tough protective coating of iron oxide over the metal and thereby prevent certain types of corrosion, to provide a proper environment for precipitation of desirable sludge materials, and to keep silica in solution so as to avoid deposition of siliceous scales.
For cooling water and service water supplies, Alkatreat is used to adjust pH of the water from the acid side to slightly alkaline for the reduction of metallic corrosion.
ADVANTAGES
1. Convenient ready to use liquid.
2. Can be mixed with most treatment chemicals.
3. No carbon dioxide releases as with soda ash.
FEED REQUIREMENTS
Alkatreat is used in controlled amounts so as to maintain a phenolphthalein alkalinity in boiler water in the range of 300 to 500 ppm as calcium carbonate. Alkalinity control ranges will vary depending upon boiler operating pressure. Your Rochem Marine Representative can establish control parameters for your installation.
METHOD OF FEEDING
Alkatreat can be fed either intermittently to the boiler feed water line or with a continuous feed pump to the feed water line, deaerator or boiler drum. Alkatreat can be mixed in the phosphate - dispersive tank. Materials of construction of the feed equipment are not critical, but dissimilar materials should be avoided. Steel valves should be used in place of brass.
STORAGE & HANDLING
Keep container closed not in use. Alkatreat contains strong alkali and will cause burns. Avoid contact with skin or clothing. Wash with large quantities of water in case of contact with eyes treat with large volumes of cold water for 15 minutes and see a physician. As with any chemicals when handling use goggels or face shield, rubber gloves etc. Keep from freezing. Store inside.
